The Controls Engineer is responsible for creating electrical, pneumatic and software designs for custom automation machinery per provided specifications.
Functional Responsibilities:
- Plans and performs a variety of duties requiring an expert degree of knowledge and skill with equipment including: Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC’s), HMI control, instrumentation, sensors, variable frequency drives, stepper/servo drives, motor control circuits, power distribution systems up to 600 VAC. This position will provide electrical and controls support for the Build and Test Departments.
- Creates clear and functional electrical, pneumatic and software designs that will meet the concept requirements as defined by the Concept Group and the quality, cost, and delivery needs of the end customer. Interfaces with Concept Engineering, Mechanical Design Engineering, Build Dept. and the Project Manager to support the engineering design and part delivery. Presents status and options as required to maintain budget and delivery schedule.
- Completes the documentation that is required to efficiently communicate designs for external and internal use through the use of detail drawings, schematics, programming, bills of materials and associated texts.
- Correctly identifies and communicates needed changes to tools (software, computers, and workspace, etc.) that eliminate repetitive concept/design errors or inefficiencies.
Education & Experience:
- S. degree in Electrical Engineering or similar technology or 5+ years of electrical controls engineering experience in similar industry.
- 3+ years of experience as an Electrical Controls Engineer with BSEE.
- Ability to comprehend and apply principles of modern algebra, statistical theory and the scientific method.
- Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, etc.) in its most difficult phases.
- Able to design highly complex control systems using PLC, HMI and AutoCAD Electrical. (i.e. Panel layout, wiring and testing). Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.
- Understands LEAN and 6 Sigma concepts and tools. ISO experience a plus.
- Must have solid organizational skills with strong attention to detail.
- FDA/CFR 21 experience a +
Certification & Standards:
- Understand and apply pertinent regulatory and agency standards (OSHA, ANSI/PMMI, NFPA).
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position more than 50% of the time.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
- This position needs to occasionally move about the office and manufacturing floor.
- Constantly operates a computer and other office equipment.
- Requires frequent communication with teammates, staff, and customers.

This position is responsible for custom machine building, debug, inspection, and repair of custom built high speed automation equipment.
Functional Responsibilities:
- Assembly of custom designed equipment automation assembly and inspection equipment.
- Build and troubleshoot automated assembly machines, sub-assemblies, and electrical components from engineering drawings and specifications.
- Problem solving machine issues that arise.
Requirements:
- Strong mechanical aptitude
- Experience using measuring tools such as micrometers and calipers
- Have the capability to operate various machining equipment (mills, lathes, etc.)
- Exceptional interpersonal skills with a strong desire for ongoing training and growth in a team-oriented environment
- The ability to effectively communicate, lead teams and meet deadlines
- Working PLC and AC/DC fundamentals knowledge is a+
- Associates Degree in industrial technology/applied science is a+
- High School Diploma and 2-5 years of mechanical assembly experience

This position works within the Electrical Build group and is responsible for assembly and wiring control cabinet panels, sub-assemblies, products, or systems of automation equipment; and to provide electrical support for debugging operations.
Functional Responsibilities:
- Assemble custom machinery that includes panel building and installation of electrical components using electrical schematics, engineering drawings, job specifications and written/verbal instructions.
- Ability to conduct functional and continuity tests of electrical assemblies, components, wire harnesses, using a volt meter
- Wire transformers, PLC’s, motors, solenoids, sensors, valves and switches as necessary.
- Past electrical and mechanical machine assembly experience to include: point to point wiring, locating, drilling and tapping holes, mounting brackets, wire motors, solenoids, sensors, valves and switches
- Must have own basic tools (screwdrivers, socket set, wrenches, wire cutters...)
- Technical assembly and/or maintenance experience of industrial machinery working from machine wiring diagrams, blueprints, & schematics
- Ability to install junction boxes, wire way, conduit between machine control panels and sub panels
- Knowledge / experience measuring and working with high and low voltage machine power and controls.
- Familiar with electrical test equipment (multi meter)
- Experience with pneumatics is a plus
- Machine testing experience a plus
Requirements:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Interpret electrical wiring diagrams
- 3+ years’ experience in electrical assembly
- Knowledge of electrical components
- Must be able to perform advanced electrical assembly work

The Machine Test/Field Service Technician is responsible for final assembly, testing/debug, field installation and service of automation equipment. They will also participate in customer product testing, demonstrations, technician education, and final quality control inspection of machinery prior to shipment. This person may travel up to 30% of the time to non-local customer sites.
Functional Responsibilities:
- Performs machinery installations, service, and warranty claims are handled professionally in a fair and timely manner through direct customer and representative contact.
- Provides technical support to engineering and manufacturing for machinery upgrades and configurations including written documentation of field corrections and problems for their use.
- Performs the testing of product samples supplied by the customer for the purpose of determining equipment compatibility and configuration.
- Performs the final quality and performance testing of machinery.
- Is involved in the customer contact and assistance during machinery acceptance visits.
- Reviews recommended spare parts lists for new machinery supplied by engineering.
- Identify opportunities to solve customer problems or make improvements to our standard practices where the end result is an increase in value to the customer.
- Keep work organized (5S) so nothing is left untested and testing is done in an efficient manner as possible.
- Correctly identify and communicate to department manager needed changes in other departments that eliminate repetitive errors or inefficiencies in test.
- Effectively use Haumiller resources to identify failures and causes prior to and during service calls.
- Fully understand the scope of the service call to perform service efficiently.
Education & Experience:
- Associates Degree from college or technical school is preferred or 1-2 years of experience in similar industry or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 3+ years as a Service Technician
- PLC, Electrical (AC/DC Fundamentals).
- Machine shop (Mill and Lathe Technology).
- Must know how to read detail drawings, operate basic machine shop equipment (drill press, mill, grinder), use basic hand tools, use basic measuring equipment (calipers, micrometer, scale).
- Read and understand assembly drawings, electrical and air schematics, and ladder logic.
Physical Requirements:
- Long periods of standing is required
- Must have the ability to kneel down, crawl under and move around machinery with physical ease.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret blueprints and technical references with respect to building machines from custom and off the shelf components.
- This position needs to regularly move about the manufacturing floor.
- Occasionally operates a computer and other office equipment.
- Requires frequent communication with teammates, staff, and customers.
- Must be able to read and interpret engineering drawings and 3D solid models.
- Must be able to move parts, components, or assemblies weighing up to 50lbs

Meet Joshua Sibblies!
Joshua was hired in 2017 as a Mechanical Design Engineer. He graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology with his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering. From there, he went on to work in the automation world designing custom automation systems for four years before coming to Haumiller Engineering. Over the past two years, Joshua has proved to be a fantastic addition to our Mechanical Engineering group. His manager describes Joshua as an intelligent team player. In his spare time, he enjoys wood working, reading and traveling the world. Joshua says that tackling new challenges while getting the chance to learn from leaders in the industry is what he loves most about working at Haumiller.
